A band of brothers and sons using music to tell the story of where we've been and where we're headed.
The Underhill Family Orchestra
The Underhill Family Orchestra is a rowdy, warpaint-wearing, arm-swingin'-foot-stompin' 6-piece Rock-and-Roll//Americana outfit from the Alabama Delta. Since their formation in 2009, these twenty-somethings have produced two albums worth of music and played all over the southeast and the midwest bringing their sound, which mixes gypsy//jazz//folk//spiritual//soul//rock-and-roll and other surprises, to the ears and hearts of thousands of people.
The Young Step hail from St. Augustine, Florida. The Young Step sound is as obscure and mysterious as the northeast Florida swampland, with subtle impressions of David Bowie, David Byrne, The Doors, Roxy Music, and T-Rex, blended with New Wave quirkiness a'la Devo and the B-52s, and including a sort of 'Rock N' Roll Spiritual' aspect only the lovechild of Alan Watts and Janis Joplin would understand. It's a funky-sexy-quirky mind-trip.

Formed in the Fall of 2014, The Young Step originated with Ben Whitson and Micah Gilliam, who had previously collaborated on numerous musical projects. Ben, a film-maker and song-writer, has created music under multiple monikers (Flowers, The Sons Of), and is the primary writer and vocalist of The Young Step. Ben is the artistic spearhead of the group and keeps the band on the 'bohemian' side of Steve McQueen cool. Micah, the oldest (and wisest) of the group, has been writing and performing since pubescence, has toured nationally and internationally, engineers and produces in his own studio, and is also a member of The WillowWacks with his wife, and third member of The Young Step, Lauren Gilliam. Lauren, a vocalist and ukulele player, was added on bass, guitar, and vocals soon after inception. Lauren has played bass with St. Augustine favorites Chelsea Saddler and Amy Hendrickson, and is a professional blown-glass artist. Veteran drummer Matt Carter, formerly of Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Virgin Millionaires, has stepped in behind the kit, bringing with him a wealth of recording, writing, and international touring experience.

The Young Step released their debut album 'El Clàsico' in April of 2016. The album was recorded at Micah Gilliam's home studio in St. Augustine and was mixed and mastered at The Magic Shop Recording Studio in SoHo, by engineer Matt Boynton (Hospitality, MGMT, Kurt Vile).

"El Clàsico opens with the driving gut-punch of 'Baby You Know.' Track two, 'Nature Man,' is another simple, visceral pop pleasure...a joy to hear. I could go song by song through this entire review, but you get the picture. This is giddy, fun, sing-alongable pop...I love this band and the music they make." - John E. Citrone | Folio Weekly
